“I was searching for an apartment complex…they had an ad in the paper, I called first; ‘Yes we have it, come down and take a look at it.’ When I get there, ‘oh we just filled this.’ (I said) ‘I just talked to you 20 minutes ago’… so I go back home and call, ‘Yes, the apartment is still for rent.’ So it was based on my skin color.” – African-American interviewee.
